Department Overview


Artificial Intelligence and a digital platform are essential to our ability to fulfill Oportun’s financially inclusive mission. The Technology team @ Oportun is dedicated to this mission which we enable by creating, delivering, and maintaining elegant, intuitive, and performant systems to support the needs of our customers and business partners.



The Security Training and Awareness Analyst will be responsible for supporting Security Program Engagement in partnership with the team’s  Security Training & Awareness Program Manager. The Security Training and Awareness Analyst will be assisting with identifying and implementing a security training program that addresses key threats and risks and raises the overall security awareness throughout the organization.


This role will also serve as the primary liaison to the Technology organization, Engineering team, Analytics, Data Science, and other technical teams. A key focus of this role is to work in partnership with the Application Security team to implement a security training and awareness program for their stakeholders (which include Engineering, Data Analytics and Data Science) to drive towards a safer, more secure operation. The ideal candidate will have some technical experience and/or a passion for security while also enjoying interacting meaningfully with different audiences. Ultimately, this role aims to reduce risk to our organization by ensuring all employees and related resources know, understand, and follow Oportun’s security requirements and behave in a secure manner. This role may be located at our headquarters in San Carlos, CA or be remote.


  • Security Training and Awareness (75%)
    • Assist with the development and maintenance a security awareness program geared towards technical audiences and stakeholders
    • Research and identify top human risks to the organization and the behaviors that must change to mitigate those risks
    • Partner with key members of the Technology organization to drive learning at all levels
    • Review training content and delivery methods
    • Support the operationalization of learning, which may include managing logistics and vendor relationships
    • Write, update and maintain technical documentation and processes
    • Drive forward best practices within the organization around secure coding, sensitive data, industry regulations, standards, compliance requirements
  • Security Program Engagement (25%)
    • Assist with the development and maintenance of measures to effectively track and report on the efficacy of trainings and awareness efforts
    • Draft communications to relevant audiences and assist with the creation of role-based procedures/training to specific segments of the employee population
    • Assist with a security champion/ambassador program
    •  Assist with the maintenance of KPIs and metrics frameworks around security awareness


  • 4+ years of technical experience or interfacing directly with a security or technology team
  • 2+ years of program/project management experience
  • Working knowledge of application security space, which touches secure coding, sensitive data, industry regulations, standards, compliance requirements
  • Experience using JIRA, Confluence, KnowBe4, including creating reports, charts and dashboards in JIRA
  • Proven experience with development and/or management of metrics and executive reporting
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, cross-functional team environment and develop solutions to challenges with limited guidelines
  • Ability to use independent judgement to make sound decisions, adapt to and manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment with competing and shifting priorities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to influence others
  • Rigorous attention to detail
  • High-level of personal integrity, as well as the ability to professionally handle confidential matters, and demonstrated judgment and maturity
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) proficiency in both, written and oral. At least a C1 according to European Common Framework of reference for languages.
